Thankful for Thorns

Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, Yet Your commandments are my delights. Psalm 119:143 Okay, let us cut to the chase. . . why should I  delight  in God's commands when I'm troubled and in anguish!?  Because putting omy focus upward instead of inward is where God wants my spiritual eyes.  He knows how small and weak I am.  I have to admit to struggling at times, falling into the trap of complaining.  But then I get a gentle reminder from Him that He is still faithful.  His commands are there to guide me in the eternal way. That brings me great  delight ! Yesterday someone tweeted this:  My God, I have never thanked Thee for my thorns. I have thanked Thee a thousand times for my roses, but not once for my thorns (G.Matheson). So, today, I'm thanking God for the thorns that poke and prick, for they are the reminders that He faithfully walks with me on that path. . . He walked it Himself long ago.  

Everyday thanksgiving

Yesterday we celebrated a national day of Thanksgiving. Early in our nations history, our president set aside November 26 th as a day to spend in contemplation and thankfulness to God for peace and bounteous blessings. We have continued that tradition to this day. Yet today it has become a day to overeat, play games, watch football, and even shop. How much time was spent thinking on the blessings we enjoy? Perhaps a few, if a prayer was said to thank God for the food. But what else? Was there time set aside to remember what we really have? I don't mean materially, but spiritually. Or is the dearth of activity in that department suggest a deeper emptiness? Every day should be a day of thanksgiving. As a baptized believer, I have the most blessed existence ! It is not limited to the day or the hour I even spend in the assembly with other Christians.
